Santa got me Sports & Fashion for Christmas

Happy Holidays all:

As the year comes closer to a close I have realized how many awesome and not so awesome sports and fashion events I didn't get a chance to offer my two cents on.

Instead of doing a boring traditional recap I thought it would be pretty cool to put it to the "12 Days of Christmas" tune, no worries there will be NO audio embedded. This will be a compilation of things happening in the sports and fashion world.  I also added pictures of events I have attended or worked while interning at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex  I hope you enjoy it!

Merry Christmas!!!

Homecoming Hot & Not list

Hi fam! It is homecoming season for a lot of schools and I started to think of things we can do to make the homecoming experience fun,but also still professional. Check out a few of my do's and don'ts below...feel free to add! Xoxo

Don't hook up w/an old boo when u know y'all have no potential
Do be genuinely happy to see people & interested in their post graduate life--think networking
Don't spend your bill $ trying to fake it like your ballin
Do support your old organizations as they will be asking for donations
Don't cake on the eyebrows, lashes, make-up and booty pads...you do want people to recognize you a bit.
Don't look desperate if you are single
Do bring your significant other if you're dating or married
Don't bring your child to the plots if you are going to spend the majority of your time strolling
Do bring business cards
Don't ask people why they aren't following you on twitter or friends with you on Facebook
NO FAKE LOUBOUTINS!!!!
Fellas just because you had a "thing" in undergrad don't assume she is still an option. Save yourself the embarrassment and her the awkward moment.
Don't go back to school wearing nalia if you didn't really cross...please save yourself from being wrecked
Always help the old alumnus at the games and on the plots. Fix their plates, give them your seats etc.
Don't spend your entire time talking about other people. Lame.com
Remember this is just a weekend--don't make detrimental decisions that will affect you long term
Don't wear shoes that you can't be comfortable in.
Visit with old professors if time permits
Be positive even if things aren't going great in your life...you don't want to leave your former classmates with the thought that you have become negative Nancy!
Post appropriate pictures on your social media sites.
Don't go back asking for a job
No fighting
Do be fabulous & fly all weekend!

Hump Day Highlights

As a new resident of FL I was eager to watch the Miami Dolphins take on the New England Patriots.  I am former fan, back when Dan Marino was calling the shots, but now I am free agent.  Miami hit the ground running scoring the first touchdown well before the first quarter was over.  In efforts to not over saturate you with yet another game recap let’s get straight to my point—Wes Welker is my Monday Night Football MVP!

I have decided to select a MNF MVP weekly, but I have very STRICT criteria:
·         Possibly underrated or overlooked
·         Huge heart/humble
·         Made notable plays

Had I not decided on this criteria Cam Newton, who also fits the description above would have hands down been picked, but with him going as first overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft sort of cancelled him out.  I really enjoyed watching Wes play on Monday.  He plays with poise and swagger which is always a bonus.  His 99 yard run, which enters him in the record books AGAIN (see his other records here) got me off my couch.  I loved his stiff arm to Benny Sapp (unfortunately he was released the NEXXTTT Day by Miami) and full stride down to the in-zone!

I haven’t decided on a team yet, but if Wes keeps playing that well, I may pull for them…just maybe.

Girls behaving badly!

Now if anyone has talked to me for more than 15 minutes about physical fitness or health I am sure I mentioned my slight obsession with Serena Williams.  Yes—I love this woman, her attitude, her physical appearance and her demeanor.  Serena carries herself as a boss of all bosses and with a  5’9 frame and a body that brings most African American males to tears, intimidating people can’t be that tough.  Welp, folks as you know she did it again.  Serena “POPPED” off on the chair umpire.

As I watch the video clip over and over again, I cringe.  I love Serena, I do and I can totally identify with the intensity of the game getting the best of you.  I think back to how many yellow and red cards I received in volleyball for slamming a ball or talking junk back and forth with another player through the net (GANGSTTAAA) lol, but Serena has to know they are gunning for her.  She can't even look wrong at someone before they start whispering about her acting out.

I hate the way the media portrays her, as the big bad wolftress scaring her oppenents and judges alike.  Losing the game and her temper at the U.S. Open wasn't a complete lost for Serena as she walked away with 1.4 million dollars, that's not too shabby for getting runner up.

Save vs. Splurge

Bright done RIGHT!  I am sure you ladies can agree with me, you've seen the girl in the club with the neon patent leather pumps...probably purchased from the Rainbow nearest you.  Well this week's shoes are beautiful, bold, BRIGHT and classy.

The save shoe is called Angel Lina by Luchiny.  I like the brand Luchiny, they make pretty well constructed shoes, considering the price.

Shoe Stats:

Heel Height: 5in
Platform Height: 2in
Material: Faux Suede
Price: $84.95
Color Options: Fuschia, Cobalt Blue and Black

You can purchase this fabulous shoe here

For the first time in High Heels High Goals history I have TWO splurge shoes.  I couldn't bring myself to pick between these two fabulous designers & shoes, so I thought the only appropriate thing to do is to feature both.

The first splurge shoe is by Giuseppe Zanotti.  I haven't come across that many Giuseppe shoes that I wouldn't wear.  This brand just puts out some amazing, high quality, eye catching shoes.

Shoe Stats:

Heel Height: 5 1/2 in
Platform Height: 2in
Material: Suede Leather
Price: $750.00
Color Options: Pink

You can purchase this beauty here

The second splurge shoe is by late-great Alexander McQueen.   The creativity and brilliance that goes behind every McQueen design amazes me more and more each experience.  I was satisfied with comparing the Luchiny & Zanotti, but darn you Zappos for recommending shoes!  When I saw this baby in my suggested shoes it felt like Christmas day.  How could I walk away from such an amazing shoe and not share it with my Shoenistas.  Enjoy dolls! :)

Shoe Stats:

Heel Height: 5 1/2 in
Platform Height: 1 1.4in
Material: Velvet
Price: $930.00
Color Options: Paprika
You can purchase this beauty here

Side note...I met Sean Paul this week at 102 Jamz Orlando see pic below!

Hump Day Highlights #7

A Sports Meeting: An Ode to my Ladies in Sports
It was such an inspiring moment to be in a Monday morning meeting and look around the room and find nothing but women.  As we sat there discussing the future of sports and marketing strategies I had to digest the growth we have had over these last few decades.  We have a list of trailblazers that made it possible for us to be in this meeting shaping the look of sports at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

I felt honored, inspired, reassured, and humbled.  This is an awesome time to be a woman in sports as the playing field is growing more and more leveled.  We have more female sports broadcasters, sport show producers, athletic directors, and the list goes on.  We must continue to prove that it is okay to "play like a girl!"  I constantly remind myself that I must work extra hard and maintain my integrity so the next generation of women can coach an NBA team or have ownership of a NFL team...oh wait the Williams' sisters are already doing that huh?  Ladies we are on our way!

                           Save vs. Splurge
Yes oh yes the Espadrille is back with a vengeance and don’t worry ladies these are NOT your mother’s espadrilles circa 1982.  Often people confuse what an “espadrille” is, is it a wedge…is a wedge an espadrille??  Yes and No!  A wedge is a type of shoe—so if you see an espadrille with a wedge bottom than it is an espadrille, but some espadrilles are flat, thus not yielding them to be included EXCLUSIVELY in the wedge family.  The traditional espadrille is made with a wiry synthetic or natural fiber that resembles rope, but our two featured designers have taken the espadrille look and put their own fabulous spin on it.

Save:

The save shoe is by Enzo Angiolini and I absolutely love it for its natural, yet fashionable appeal.

Shoe Deets:

·         This shoe is called Ramie
·         It was originally priced at $110, but you can presently buy it for $71.53 Zappos.com
·         It also comes in a Pewter color—but I am not super stoked about it.
·         The heel height is 4 ¼ in
·         The platform height is 1 ¼ in

How to wear it:

Work:

I love this shoe because it will look fabulous on just about every body type and height (I would suggest being at least 5’0” though lol)  I think because the shoe has that casual material & look it wouldn’t be appropriate for a business attire environment UNLESS your office offers casual Friday.  This shoe would be perfect for the casual nod—you still look put together, but you know how to be casually cute!  I envision this shoe with a  button down dress, hitting right above the knee with a slight a line flair to it in white, green, tan, or maybe a CALM floral pattern.  If you decide to go with a button down dress limit your jewelry to a nice simple ring & maybe a good metal watch (Gold or Rose Gold would be beautiful)!!  If you go with a calm floral pattern I think a 3-tiered simple gold rope necklace  would be beautiful.

Date:

If you’ve got hot legs show em!!!  I think this shoe would look perfect with a nice pair of high-waist culotte shorts!  It would look AMAZING for you long legged gals!  Tuck in a tee and throw on some glam earth-tone colored jewelry and you will leave him thirsty for more.  I think this look also calls for bronzer…please don’t go Jerseylicious on me—but that nice sun-kissed glow will tie the look together.

Brunch with the girls:

I can see this shoe with some wide leg jeans and a crisp white halter button up.  A braided colored belt, maybe coral or turquoise, would be fabulous!  I would love to see gold hoops & high bun/ponytail with this look.

*I am strongly considering purchasing these shoes soooo I will probably recreate some of these styles and add pics later! *

Splurge:

The splurge shoe is by Jimmy Choo and is just as adorable as it wants to be.

Shoe Deets:

·         This shoe is called Patriot Pat
·         It is priced at $495 and you can buy it at one of my favorite retailers  Nordy!
·         It has a patent leather upper w/a leather lining
·         The heel height is 4 ¾  in
·         The platform height is 1 ½ in

How to wear it:

Work:

This shoe would look FAB with a  coral sheath pencil dress—exposed zipper is a bonus!  I am thinking a shorter gold necklace with an interesting looping shape…think thick squares or stones linked together.  I would probably do a ring over a bracelet—it is so annoying to me at work to have my bracelets constantly jingling & clicking.

Date:

Think summer nights in NY…navy cigarette pants with a  silk rose pink halter—extremely low back, so HAUTE right, I know *FLIPS HAIR*!   I would love to see a Chanel 2.55 bag in cream on the shoulder.  For jewelry I say glam earrings & the hair up in a soft, messy ball.  Go light on the make-up, this isn’t the time to BEAT your face.  I am thinking pinkish blush…a pinkish nude lip, a little highlight under the brow and that’s all.  Very, very sweet with a sexy twist!

Brunch:

This brunch would have to be pretty fancy to strut up with patent leather espadrilles before noon, so with that preface let’s begin!  I  imagine a sea foam green peasant dress with off the shoulder cap sleeves.  A little cinching at the waist with a loosely pleated A-Line skirt hitting above the knee.  I like simple jewelry for this look, traditional Tiffany & Co toggle set or a nice pearl set.  What’s that you say…you want to wear your big sun hat, sure bring that along as well!!

The Day after HumpDay Highlights...Yeah that will work!

I know I know..I am a day late...but since it is my blog I can do what I want Ha  lol

As a heel lover it pains me to admit that some of the shoes I wear HURT MY FEET!!! I mean from start to finish…just plain ole uncomfortable, but we do it for the girls to be envious & the boys to admire us!  In my current position at Disney I pretty much sit at my computer all day and do my awesome marketing job, but on rare occasions I have to go over to the complex.  One time I was totally caught off guard and had to go over for a meeting.  I wore one of my FAVORITE pair of H by Halston for Bakers Shoes.  It was about 95 degrees outside and I had on a sheath dress with a  nautical twill blazer.  Needless to say I was DRIPPING with sweat & my feet were crying for freedom.

I was soo unprepared and had no flats in my purse.  Once we arrived at the meeting we stood for at least 30mins talking (ouch, ouch) cries my feet! Lol Well, since then, you can always find a pair of flats at my desk, in my car or in my purse.

The save & splurge shoes for this post are a homage to the flats…often overlooked & regarded as a cop out for women not willing to strut in 5in platforms.  When in fact a flat can be gorgeous, fashion forward, and most importantly comfortable.

Save:

The save shoe is from Charlotte Russe.  Although I think one should stop shopping here for the majority of their wardrobe by high school I think when you are looking for a quick fix or an expensive addition have at it.

Here are some deets on the shoe:

·         This shoe doesn't really have a name, its labeled as a Faux-Snakeskin Thong Sandal
·         it retails for $22.50
·         It comes in 2 different colors (black and white).

You can buy the shoe here Charlotte Russe Snakeskin Flat

If you go quickly Charlotte Russe has a BOGO for $15 special, but be careful with the “I BUY IT IN EVERY COLOR” deal—that’s not cute.

How to wear it:

Work:

I adore this sandal because it is nice to look at, but not distracting.  That is my mantra for selecting work appropriate shoes.  Because this shoe exposes your foot I would stay away from wide leg pants because it could look like you don’t have any shoes on at all.  I would suggest a nice coral cap sleeve dress if your skin is sun-kissed and golden!  Don’t worry my fair-skinistas because this flat would look awesome with a navy cap sleeve dress as well.  I would either find a dress with nice structured hardware (square or round metal buttons) or without any hardware at all.  If you find the latter a solid skinny belt at the waist will add the flair of professionalism that you are missing with such a casual shoe.  A nice pearl set will tie this look together well.

Date:

Okay my preface for wearing this shoe on a date is NOT ON THE FIRST DATE!!  The ONLY exception to this is that it is during the day and you guys are going to do LOTS of walking because a wedge or espadrille will carry you a long way.  If you must wear this shoe on a date I would suggest looking extra sweet!  I imagine an A-LINE halter in the warm color family, a few of my favorite colors are sea foam green, coral, or white.  The material should be a linen, light cotton, gauze (maybe) think easy, flowy, and effortless!  I would take a cardigan just in case the date goes into the night (woot woot 4 u)!

Brunch with Girls:

This is the perfect casual shoe for brunch with the girls.  There are COUNTLESS outfits that I could suggest.  My heart is set on a romper!  I love them, for the most part they are flattering on every body type as long as you get the RIGHT SIZE!  Find a nicely patterned romper & some wooden & gold bangles.

Splurge:

The splurge shoe is by Stuart Weitzman

Here are some deets on the shoe:

·         The shoe is called “Tricity”
·         It is made in Spain of Italian material
·         It was originally priced at $298, but currently discounted to $199 at Neiman Marcus

You can buy the shoe here Stuart Weitzman Tricity

That may not be splurge price in regards to our traditional splurge shoe, but for a sandal I never really understand paying hundreds of dollars for them ESPECIALLY when you live in an area where you get all four seasons.  Now that I am in Florida I may consider spending a little extra on sandals, but in NC no way!

How to wear it:

Work:

Although this shoe is nice it has an older, trendy look to it.  You know, the manager in her 30s that still has an affection for fashion and the means to support it?  I would dress her in colorful knee length A-Line skirt and a simple button up shirt.  If the skirt & shirt are both solid color pieces a decent size staple necklace is appropriate, with small studs and hopefully her wedding ring!

Date:

Brunch with Girls:

I think wearing some nice linen wide leg pants (your choice in color none could really go TOO wrong) and a tank top with a jean jacket would be cool.  Layer a few rope chains and throw on some big face shades with your oversized bag and off to Briggs you go (hometown shout out) delicious food go see them Brigs Restaurant

NFL/NBA Lockout

Months ago I put my stance down on the lockout—now the NBA has joined in with the lockout.  Again, I say these athletes are abusing their bodies every time they play and each game they play could be their last.  I say high risk—high reward.  More importantly, don’t forget about the people who fill the stadiums, buy the jerseys and foam fingers, the people that pay THE SALARIES—the fans!  I found a blog post that really touched my heart about why the fans should be the reason the lockout ends.  Check it out—and grab some tissues! Fans First!

I am proud to be AmeriAKAn (skee wee)

Since the 4th of July was this past Monday I thought it would be cool to write about the 4th, but also tie in sports.  one of my fellow interns named Bobby at the ESPN Wide World of Sports suggested that I feature the MLB Stars and Stripes special edition hats on my blog.

The NY Yankees hat is my favorite, but I can’t tell my nanny (grandma) that she is a hardcore Mets fan!
These hats are $36.99 before tax and are pretty cool.  You can purchase them here Stars & Stripes.

Make sure you check out Bobby’s blog, he is discussing sports from an unfiltered standpoint with facts to back it up.  He is pretty hilarious & is serious about his sports, follow Bobby’s blog Real Talk, From Outta Left Field or on twitter Bobby Cash!

Last thing guys…I picked up a part-time gig with Sephora, I predict more make up posts in the near future!

Hump Day Highlights #5

Hey fam Happy Hump Day!!
As of today I have been with Disney for a week and a half.  It is everything I could have imagined, plus more!  Today a few of the interns got together to go ride the Tower of Terror, it marked my first day being in ANY DISNEY theme parks.  In honor of that I got a 1st time visitor pin!  See below:

If you haven’t ridden the Tower of Terror put that on your list of rides to ride!  It is awesome!
Side note it was SUPER HOT so I suggest later in the year or at least when the sun goes down!

Ok, on to my save & splurge shoe, I decided to add how I would wear the shoe in different types of situations.  This week’s  splurge shoe designer was suggested by a dear friend— Casey!!  This budding PR rockstar is pretty amazing!  Follow her on twitter @411_PRincess.

Ahoy, matey!

A nod to nautical shoes can go wrong pretty quickly so tread lightly ladies when you try to match these shoes with your outfit, jewelry, bags etc.

Splurge:

Miu Miu two tone Patent Leather Platform Sandal is a beautiful versatile summer shoe.  This shoe can go from work to fun appropriate in .2 seconds.

Here are some of the deets on the shoe:

·         6 inch heel
·         2 inch platform
·         Designer color name: Bianco

The shoe was originally $509.00, but now it is $359 (Still a splurge on an intern budget)

You can buy the shoe at this website, which I love….http://srz.me/TTMiuMT

How to wear it:

*Work

-Navy sheath dress, think our First Lady Michelle Obama’s staple dress, & a structured blazer or cardigan depending on your location.

*Date

Satin/Sateen navy shorts & boyfriend blouse tucked in (I think a very soft pink would be uber pretty) chunky bracelets & an understated ring.  (Who knows this date may be the one where you get THE OVERSTATED RING)

*Brunch with the Girls

Ok, this is with the preface that you just came from church because these shoes are a little TOO fly for just brunch!  I see a flowy knee length skirt with a cardigan (some type of floral applique optional) & a structured button up short sleeve/sleeveless shirt.  I’ve left out the color choices because I couldn’t commit to the one I like best, but just stick with soft, girly, feminine.  Can I just mention that mint green in a small way keeps coming to mind?  As far as jewelry goes I envision pearls—LOTS OF THEM!

Save:

Okay girls the save shoe is by one of my favorite UK turned US suppliers ASOS!

This shoe is going to be pushing the budget of save, but in my hunt for a “save” nautical shoe I found they looked really tacky, boring, and SO not me—and I would never recommend a shoe I wouldn’t wear myself.

It is the ASOS POISON Platform High Shoe

Now this shoe may not be as work appropriate as the Miu Miu because of its unique platform & bold stripes, however if you work in a progressive office or in retail I am sure you can get away with it.

Here are some deets on the shoe:

Heel Height: 6 inches
Platform Height: 2 inches

The shoe is $112.05

You can purchase the shoe at www.asos.com

How to wear it:

*Work

You’re going to REALLY have to calm this shoe down.  I am thinking light tan wide leg pants, a crisp white button up and classic jewelry (silver studs & bracelet or a nice pearl set).

*Date

I see a strapless pencil dress, white or tan only—I think navy would be too contrived & almost expected.  For jewelry I would think embellished earrings & maybe a huge staple ring or stacked bracelets mixed with gold and wood.

*Brunch with girls

I would love to see cut off shorts, a big boyfriend tee, a straw fedora with a patterned band and some Raybans—effortless.

Okay the last and MOST IMPORTANT statement…

All hail Queen B “4” 6.24.11

That is all!!!

Hump Day Highlights #4

NBA
A win for the Cavs…is sweet but beating LeBron and the Heat is soo much sweeter.  The Cavs beat the Heat 120-97 last night.  The disdain that Cleveland fans have for LeBron did not dissipate at all.  I believe it will be a long time coming before they let him enter the arena and do not greet him with a resounding Boo!  Does this negative greeting affect LeBron?  Well when you look at his numbers it definitely doesn’t look like it.  LeBron had a triple-double night last night after the game LeBron had nothing, but great things to say about the Cavs and their level of play.
This could be the beginning of a Knicks vs. Jordan era!  Go back down memory lane with me to the late 90s.  Do you remember when Jordan played the Knicks in Madison Square Garden?  Do you remember the tension…you could cut it with a knife.  It seems that whenever Jordan played the Knicks he had to have the best game of his life.  To this day if you Google “Knicks hated Jordan” or “Jordan vs. Knicks” you will get blogs and countless web page comments with dedicated Knicks fan expressing their disparagement for Michael Jordan.  LeBron is definitely on the same path…this isn’t the first time LeBron is compared to Jordan and it certainly won’t be the last.  This is just one more parallel to add to the list of similarities.
MLB
Opening day is tomorrow for the MLB.  Although baseball isn’t my favorite sport I will say I enjoy attending a game for the entire experience.  I am definitely going to get my serving of games this year as an intern for York Revolution baseball team.  Our opening day is less than a month away and I am really excited to see how they differ from my beloved Durham Bulls!
NCAA
It’s final four time!  For the most part America did not see the line-up coming.  See below for the game schedule.
·         VCU vs. Butler @ 6:09pm
·         UConn vs. Kentucky @ 8:49pm
My prediction is Butler and UConn will meet at the championship game, with Butler winning the championship game.

Shoe Timeee!!
Okay, now I have found two embellished shoes.
The save shoe is by Not too Coy.  It was originally $130 (which I personally feel like is TOO expensive for the shoe) but now it is “on sale” for $84.50.  It looks pretty cool for hanging out in the club…etc, but I definitely don’t see it in the summer time with that plastic piece on the side.  Honestly I probably wouldn’t spend over $40 for this shoe, so we will need to wait on this shoe to go on clearance.

Now I am super excited about the splurge shoe.
This Stella McCartney heel is a true beauty and I am in love with the simplicity yet iconic style of the shoe.  Now this baby retails for $795, however if I had it…I would add it to my collection.  I think that a shoe like this won’t go out of style.  You can’t wear it every day so it will have a long life.  It’s that shoe you throw on when you want to feel extra sexy or want to dress up an otherwise dull outfit.   Enjoy!

I hope this was a great finale to your HUMP day…see you on Free for all Friday

Monday Mixdown

Happy Monday fam!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable and fun weekend.  Let's mix things down from this weekend and what's coming up this week.

Mixing in Sports

Where's your bracket?  Do you want to know where mine is...IN THE TRASH!  My beloved Tar Heels fell just shy of a final four appearance to Kentucky.  So the final four consist of:

  • Kentucky
  • Butler
  • Uconn
  • VCU
Although I now don't have a dog in this fight, I am picking Butler to take it all.  I like Butler and I STILL think they should have beat Duke last year, soo since my Heels are out, they can win it this year! :)

Mixing in TV

Wedding Wars....another snooze guys!  Moreover, they got rid of my FAVORITE COUPLE Jay & Dee...I may find something else to watch during their time slot...the show is just too REALITY PREDICTABLE!!

Love & Hip Hop...ok if they would lessen the terribly scripted personal sessions I would really enjoy the show.  I am torn with how I feel about Emily (Fab's girlfriend....some days anyway) she seems like she is sincere, but they it looks like she may be a little messy too.  We must keep watching to see how all this drama unfolds.  I REALLY want to see Maurice (Somaya's manager) vs. Jimmy on the next episode, it was probably staged too, but it will make for great TV regardless.

Beverly Hills Fabulous this show has really started to grow on me.  I think they are balancing out the foolishness and the good-hearted events pretty well.  Like today, Elgin Charles and his new stylist Katrina are going to a local community center in South Central to inspire the underprivileged youth.  I am sure this was planned by the producers of the show, but it's still ok! :)

Mixing in Fitness

Yes, I know you are thinking...fitness?? We have never talked about that before, but family and friends I need to vent!! As some of you know I have been doing Insanity ( I HATE YOU SHAUN T lol) and I am just starting my second phase of the program.  Seriously guys, month two IS NO JOKE!!! If the first workout is ANY indication to how the rest of my time with Insanity will be, please call and check on me regularly lol because I will need all the help I can get.

Today's workout made me think about my first day back at camp for volleyball in college.  I am going to feel this in the morning -___-

Have a successful week everyone!!

American Apparel exec sued for Sexual harassment: Didn’t we all see this coming?
CEO Dov Charney is being accused of keeping a former employee as a sex slave.  I am not going into the details of the case, because I am not a reporter, lol but if you want the story click this link http://reut.rs/i7VDP5.  Although I have surfed American Apparel’s site for different pieces, I could never bring myself to pull the trigger because I feel like for the most part the items are overpriced.  Thus, it may explain why the company is struggling now.  Furthermore, on this site you will find a lot of the pictures to be compared to very soft erotic shots.  I have seen plenty of the models with shirts soo sheer that you don’t have to squint to see their “lady parts.”  I am not saying he is guilty of the crime, but when I initially heard about it I wasn’t as shocked as I would have been had I heard Oprah kept someone as  sex slave….wait isn’t that Stedman?? I kid I kid..LOVE YOU OPRAH!  Seriously though, I think as the leader of the company, any company, you have to be very careful of protecting your brand.

Free on World Matters

NATO has decided to assume command of the Libya mission.  The transition from US to NATO could happen as early as Sunday.  Moreover, they are currently considering going beyond enforcing a no-fly zone.  The protection of Libyan citizens is still up for debate.  As a people we must continue to pray for Libya, Japan, our troops and pray for ourselves.  We are truly blessed to have a government established that protects our country and keeps combat off American soil.  As always if you are interested in figuring out how you can help, just Google the effort you are interested in helping, and stick to legit well-known sites that look familiar.  Every little bit helps!

Free on Sports

DUKE LOSES!!!  Yes….Arizona BEAT DUKE!!!!!! But I have even better news….CAROLINA WINSSSS!!!!!! Carolina pretty much washed the floor with Marquette.  Carolina played a very solid game tonight, keeping Marquette shooting around 20%.  I am proud of my heels!! Let’s keep it up fellas!

Free on dining

As I embark on this new stage in my life I try to keep my experiences new and fresh.  This newness and freshness carries over to my dining experience as well.  This weekend I will be trying this asparagus recipe!  I am always excited to find new ways to cook asparagus.  Please see the link below and tell me how it worked out for you…
I must MUST go see Limitless as soon as possible.  In the first week it brought in 19 million.  The previews remind me of The Social Network  and having Kanye’s song “Power” as a theme song doesn’t help.  It looks action packed and I like those types of movies.
Well that is all I have for now, I hope you all have a great weekend.  My Weekend Edition will probably be posted on Sunday.  Stay fashionable, positive, and hungry!!  Everyone won’t be successful…but you could be….
Just a little food for thought…

Hump Day Highlights #3

Happy Humpday!!  See my highlights below…
NFL
Former NFL star Dave Duerson’s autopsy has been released. Duerson played for the Chicago Bears as a safety and he was a two-time Super Bowl winner.  According to the Associated Press Duerson may have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a condition linked to athletes who have sustained repeated concussions.  Duerson’s life appeared on downward spiral at the time of his February 17th suicide, from getting divorced to having to close his business and file bankruptcy.  Duerson often complained about memory loss and the inability to spell certain things.
Recently, we have seen so many unfortunate documentaries revealing the true impact football has on a player’s body and mind.  Football is such an expensive business that I believe certain medical red flags are buried under paperwork or a mere “he can walk it off.”  These things must not happen and players need to take more control of their life because they may end up much like Duerson.  He didn’t have any coaches or cutting edge trainers to help him at his lowest point, he was on his own.  Yes, you could be leaving millions because you can’t play because of a concussion, but will those millions make a difference when your mind isn’t functioning properly?
And to think, owners want to add two more games…
NCAA Basketball

Save & Splurge Shoes: Animal Print
The splurge shoe is by Salvatore Ferragamo; it is called the Varina flat and retails at Bloomingdales for $395.  I have a love/hate relationship with animal print, because it can go wrong SOOO fast.  My theory with animal print is “Less is more…a lot more.”  I love this flat because it is structured so well and it has this beautiful feminine bow on the front that makes it elegant and trendy all at the same time.  This is a shoe that I could see a stylish 50 year old woman wearing as well as 20-something woman wearing to a Sunday brunch with friends.

The save shoe is by my favorite fun and inexpensive store Forever 21.  This shoe retails for $14.80.  Now, before you go sprinting to the store, make sure you have a firm understanding of what a shoe that price will provide your feet.  As many of my friends and family know, I spent five years working for New Balance.  During my tenure I really grasped the importance of wearing proper shoes as often as possible.  These ballet flats will give you NO support; they are merely there for fashion purposes.  I say this to say sure wear them, but don’t make them your everyday shoe.

HUMPday Hilarious
I have stumbled upon a website for iPhone users.  My boyfriend recently got an iPhone and I have been victim of the auto-correct, though not nearly as bad as some people.  Click the link below for countless auto-correct #epicfails!

Mixdown Monday

Happy Monday…more like sleepy Monday for me.  Let me first apologize for not having a Weekend Edition; however I have went to back to North Carolina for the weekend.  The weather was BEAUTIFUL too.  I didn’t need a jacket, I really didn’t need shoes, but they are required in the majority of stores thereJ.  I am ready to mix things down…
Mixing in Sports
Dear NCAA basketball I have a personal request for the 2012 tournament.  Please institute a cap on upsets and Cinderella stories.  This tournament is filled with them and unfortunately my bracket is filled with an ugly pink/red color.
The NFL may be on a lockout, but that doesn’t stop the show.  With Tennessee Titans cornerback Courtland Finnegan at the helm he has taken it upon himself to initiate offseason workouts.  He expects approximately 20 Titans to workout at a local high school once offseason trips subside.

Mixing in TV
Wedding Wars…the next vote is for Frankie & Sophia…this episode was your typical “lets plot and form an alliance”…it was a little subpar but I am looking forward to next week.  They are eating wedding cake mixed in with dog food…lots of puking yay! lol
Beverly Hills Fabulous
My hairstylist is COMPLETELY against this show, she told me that it was scripted and as far from reality TV as possible.  After watching a second episode of it, I can definitely see what she means.  I mean they all have little cameo breakdowns.  Sean is just too much, however he is probably the reason the show was picked up because he makes for good TV.  They did have a feel good moment with the young boy coming in to get his mom a makeover with only $75.  Now, at your normal hair salon this could go a long way, but at Elgin Charles a blow dry and style range from $55-$125 so they definitely did some charity.
Rip the Runway
BET is presenting their latest installment of Rip the Runway.  Since its inception Rip the Runway has grown leaps and bounds from production to sponsors.  One thing that I am extremely excited about is their dedication to show the audience what brand of shoe is being worn on the models.  This leads me to my shoe designer of the show, it’s a tie between Zigi Shoes & Walter Steiger.  I believe the majority of women on twitter will agree with me.  I was introduced to Walter Steiger a while ago, so I googled Zigi shoes to brush up on my shoe game, my screen was imploded with different fashionistas tweeting about how much they are loving those shoes.  I think enough people are googling that shoe that it crashed the website (www.ziginy.com).  Walter Steiger is also a VERY sexy shoe, although I have seen some tweets suggesting “swagger jacking” of the Late Great McQueen.  If you missed the show it will be back on Thursday from 8-9pm.
****Teaserrrrr**** Audrina from The Hills has a new show premiering on April 17th...stay tuned for deets!
I am looking forward to this week…it will be VERY busy for your favorite Sportsanista (yep self-title) but I like being busy!
Ciao

Free for All Friday #2

Happy Friday all!  What an awesome day!  The weather was beautiful and being off of work makes it that much better.  Let's jump into our Free for all rundown...

Free on Sports

In my BEST Dick Vitale voice it's March Madness baby!!  This tournament has already presented several upsets.  Personally Morehead State, Marquette, Gonzaga and Richmond threw my bracket off, but luckily since I did so well selecting other teams I am still at 99.1%.  This weekend will be another great weekend for the basketball world and I am super excited about it.

Free on TV

Now that Basketball Wives has wrapped for the season I am already plotting my next TV show line up.  I am impatiently waiting on Khloe & Lamar's new show.  Unlike most of America, I believe in their relationshp and I think they are in it for the long-haul .  Of course I am baseing this solely on how we see them on TV, but for some reason I believe it is the real deal.  The show premiere is April 10, 2011.  After their show, another favorite person of mine, LaurieAnn Gibson, has a show called "The Dance Scene" a few weeks ago I was so excited to see LaurieAnn with her own show I tweeted her about it and to my surprise she actually replied back.  I squealed like a school-girl!! I believe both shows will provide ample entertainment and material to cover.  Starting the countdown...

Free on Fashion

As I told you before I love to feature real things that real people are wearing.  My linesister Tenesa has been SO kind to send me pictures of a shoe that makes my mouth water like someone has a decadent steak in front of me.

This shoe is by my favorite designer, Jessica Simpon, I promise you Jessica never disappoints when it comes to her shoes.  Tenesa said this shoe is the most comfortable shoe in the world, which makes this shoe THAT MUCH BETTER!  Please enjoy this Friday eye candy.

Have a great weekend & keep a look out for The Weekend Edition!

Hump Day Highlights #2

Happy Hump Day folks!  I have some great highlights for you tonight!
Let’s run it down…
NFL
I guess Chad Ochocinco said he has a wedding to pay for so he needs to keep bringing in the money.  This lockout is throwing a cramp into his cash flow, so he got creative.  Ochocinco is going to pursue his childhood dream…to play soccer.  Yes, Ochocinco will be participating in a four day try out for the MLS team Sporting Kansas City.  This could get interesting quick.  As athletic as Ochocinco is I wouldn’t doubt for a second that he makes the team.  Now I won’t go as far to say that he will be the next David Beckham, definitely not eye candy quality, but making the team would be impressive enough…
NBA
Uncle who?  Grant Hill responds to Jalen Rose’s claims of him being an Uncle Tom and for considering him “less black” because he came from a good family.  I think Grant Hill’s letter was eloquent and appropriate.  I am not trying to play devil’s advocate, but I think that Jalen Rose was speaking from a time when all these things were happening, when he was a 20something year old kid.  I think sometimes we get too sensitive and not consider all the factors; we just attack the inappropriate comment and run crazy with it.  I don’t think Jalen said any of those things out of malice; it was just the situation he was in.  *My two cents*
MLB
Is he “Werth” his weight in gold?  Well the Washington Nationals seem to believe so.  Jayson Werth, formerly with the Philadelphia Phillies, just inked a deal bringing him $126 million over a 7 year period.  Although he is a little older some think his experience will catapult him into the leadership role and take the Washington Nationals to competitive level.  While most are skeptical that they will have a turnaround season this season, analyst are comfortable saying that in a year or two Werth could be leading the Nationals to a successful season.  We must stay tuned…
NASCAR
Bristol just isn’t the same.  No, not palin, the motor speedway in Bristol, TN.  Racers and fans alike have mixed responses about the 2011 host site of the Jeff Byrd 500.  The motor speedway got a face lift and drivers think that it is a smoother ride.  Since the re-pavement collisions are down.  Fans and drivers both think that it is probably safer that way, but they miss the drive of the old Bristol.  The track use to be tougher to drive on.  It will still be an experience for fans, because at the end of the day it still Bristol, however those dedicated fans may feel that twinge of nostalgia for their old track.
NCAA-Basketball
It’s BRACKET TIME baby!!! I am putting my bracket against President Obama’s and I am hoping mine will prevail!
Its shoe time….
I decided to compare two caged style inspired shoes.
The first shoe is the save shoe, by my favorite shoe designer Jessica Simpson.
This shoe is called the Katerina.  I am showing it in an Ash Grey, but it is also sold in a black.  I love the construction of the shoe, but I feel like it is only fair for me to warn those Shoenistas with pudgy feet to stay FAR AWAY from a caged style shoe.  You don’t want your feet to look like sealed sausages now do you??  Great!  Other than that, I could see this shoe just about anywhere, unless you work in a very conservative office, in that case you may want to leave them in your car for happy hour.  This shoe retails at $98, but I found it on Zappos (www.zappos.com) for $78.40.

The second shoe is the splurge shoe.

The second shoe is the splurge shoe.  Jimmy Choo's Glenys Cage Platform sandal is very classy, with a little edge thanks to the exposed zipper.  I think this shoe will go over easier in an ultra-conservative office in comparison to the Katerina by Jessica Simpson.  This shoe retails for $995 and if you are completely sold on the nude color you will ONLY be able to get it from Saks Fifth Avenue's website (http://www.saksfifthavenue.com/).
I hope you enjoyed my Hump Day Highlights…see you back for Free for all Friday!
Xoxo
